VP, Research

Full-timeSan FranciscoTwo-year tour

The categories: what belongs in each one, what separates the products inside it, and what a buyer has to know before choosing.

A buyer arrives at Cubbie with a job to do and lands in a category. What that category says about the products in it is their whole first impression of us, and it is yours.

You own the research behind every one. What the category actually is, which products genuinely belong in it, what separates them from each other in practice rather than on a feature list, how these decisions really get made inside a company, and what changes about all of that from one year to the next. That work becomes the category briefings, the buyer guides, the comparisons and the order a buyer reads them in.

You will work closely with the Chief Economist. They own price and the market, you own the categories, and the two meet on almost every question a buyer asks out loud.

You will have a catalog of 24,819 software products and tooling that works at that scale. The test you are held to is simple: can somebody who reads one of your categories end it by making a decision.

The tour

This role runs as a two-year tour. That is the term on both sides. Near the end of it we sit down together and decide whether to run another one.

You will know in your first week what the tour is for: what you own, what has to be true by the end of it, and how that is measured.

By day ninety

The categories buyers arrive in most, researched and written to a standard you publish, so a reader can choose at the end of one.

Named criteria for what separates the products inside a category, applied the same way in every category rather than reinvented page by page.

A way of keeping a category current that keeps working when you are not the one doing it.

And a first set of buyer guides live, each one answering a question people actually turn up with.

This role is $400,000 a year, and you decide how much of it arrives as salary, as a bonus, or as ownership. Pick a starting shape, then move the sliders until it looks like the offer you want. What you build here goes to us with your application. Nothing here is an offer.

A page, a repository, a product, a post, an account.

Hyper-compatible fit

How you would actually work. Short answers are fine.

How much of your working week would Cubbie have?
How far would you move for this?
This role runs as a two-year tour. Where do you land on that?
