What software actually costs, where the market is moving, and everything Cubbie says in public about either.
Cubbie can see what software is priced at across 24,819 software products, and what companies are actually paying for the software they run. You own what that adds up to.
The job is three things. Pricing: what a category really costs, what a fair price looks like at a given size of company, and what a buyer should expect to pay before anyone gets on a call. Research: the studies, benchmarks and indexes Cubbie publishes, and the method underneath each one. Macro: what is happening to software budgets, and what that means for the people buying and selling here.
You will write the method as carefully as the finding. These numbers get quoted back across a negotiating table, and a number that cannot be defended when someone pushes on it costs more than saying nothing.
It is a public role. What you publish goes out to be read, cited and argued with, and you are the one who answers.
The tour
This role runs as a two-year tour. That is the term on both sides. Near the end of it we sit down together and decide whether to run another one.
You will know in your first week what the tour is for: what you own, what has to be true by the end of it, and how that is measured.
By day ninety
A published price benchmark for the categories buyers ask about most, with the method stated plainly enough that a stranger could reproduce it.
One index Cubbie can publish on a fixed schedule and keep publishing without a heroic effort each time.
A written standard for what Cubbie will state as fact about a price and what it will not, so every number published after it holds to the same bar.
A first piece of research out in public, being read and argued with rather than filed.
