How do you define success today?
Creating a positive outcome for everyone who trusted and helped me, including my family, team members, investors, and customers.
What's something you've built or fixed that you're still quietly proud of?
My wife and I started several software product companies, built quality teams, and useful products. These make us proud every day.
What do you do when you're not working?
We enjoy playing board games, especially strategic games. I enjoy being outdoors and experiencing nature. We love spending time with friends.
What keeps you interested in this industry?
We are software guys, and feel fortunate to live in the age of AI and data, which have long fascinated me.
What are the most energizing moments in your work?
It is energizing to be helpful and see others happy.
What does a SaaS company consistently underestimate about the ongoing cost of maintaining embedded analytics they built themselves?
The only constant is change, and technology is highly dynamic. If you build, you own it forever, and over time the customers' expectations move higher, and so does the amount of maintenance required.
How does tenant-level customization—letting each customer style or configure their own dashboards—become a product liability if it's not architected carefully from the start?
You can add capabilities, yet architectural changes are hard, if not impossible, to make. Making perfect architectural decisions to create the perfect dashboarding experience for everyone requires focus, experience, and expertise.
What do buyers most often misunderstand about what you do?
It is easy to see the visible; however, the invisible parts can be the foundation and the key to creating a solid solution. In analytics, it is easy to understand charting problems, but they often need a solid data foundation that may not get enough attention, at least at the start.
Qrvey is an all-in-one and complete analytics platform and solves complex problems that may not be visible at start.
What trends in your space do you think are overhyped?
The idea that AI can create and maintain a complex software platform is overhyped. Soon, reality will hit companies that expect to build a software business at one-tenth the cost just by leveraging AI. Obviously, AI has already changed how we code, yet the complexity has shifted from coding to other segments.
What advice would you give someone starting a software company today?
The art of problem-solving will be as valuable as ever. Focus on customers and fully understand the problems you are solving. Differentiate your solution. Software companies continue to be valuable and help society.
What's your pricing philosophy?
Create a higher value before thinking about a higher price tag.
