Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

A document specifying what users may and may not do on a software service, attached to the master agreement.

AUPs cover security misuse (no scanning, no abuse of rate limits), content rules (no illegal content, no harassment), and resource fairness (no scraping, no excessive storage). Vendors usually reserve the right to suspend service for AUP violations. From the buyer side, AUPs are mostly fine as written; the negotiable parts are the escalation process before suspension and the cure period for inadvertent violations.
